Gentlemen – there is the right way, the wrong way and the cisco way. Dont get bogged down. Above they are talking about API’s which are prevalent throughout the multi vendor landscape to enable integration, management and interpretability.

Cannot be a typo, because it`s asking about “multi-vendor” environment. But the answer is not totally clear for me. Because Automation An Interoperability sounds more appropriate.
