In which 802.1D port state are the root bridge, the root port, and the designated port(s) elected?
A. Listening
B. learning
C. forwarding
D. blocking
E. disabled

  1. While the root bridge election is taking place, all ports on the switch must be in the Blocking (or Discarding for RSTP) state. Root ports and designated ports are determined during the Listening state (or Discarding for RSTP). Finally MACs are learned during the Learning (or Discarding for RSTP) state, before ports finally transition to forwarding.

    So there isn’t one state when those three things are elected. However 2 out of 3 occur in the Listening state, so I guess A is the most correct answer, or least incorrect might be a better way to say it.
