Which configuration satisfies the design requirements?

An architect is asked to design a vSAN cluster with these requiremets:
-Supports erasure coding storage policy
-Minimized inaccessibility from single device failures
-Ability to re-protect data after a failure
The desired configuration should be able to survive a single failure.
Which configuration satisfies the design requirements?
A. 3-node hybrid vSAN cluster
B. 4-node hybrid vSAN cluster
C. 4-node all-flash vSAN cluster
D. 5-node all-flash vSAN cluster

  1. Erasure coding is supported only on all-flash, so A and B are out. You can only do RAID 5 with less than 6 nodes. RAID 5 requires 4 nodes and has FTT=1, but the only way to re-protect data after a failure is to replace the failed component. A 5-node would allow you to immediately re-protect, so I would answer D.
