Which of the following algorithms is BEST suited for this purpose?

In an effort to reduce data storage requirements, some company devices to hash every file and eliminate duplicates. The data processing routines are time sensitive so the hashing algorithm is fast and supported on a wide range of systems.

  1. B. SHA-1 is fastest hashing function with ~587.9 ms per 1M operations for short strings and 881.7 ms per 1M for longer strings. MD5 is 7.6% slower than SHA-1. RIPEMD is slower than the other two but is more preferable in a situation where security is the biggest concern.

  2. It is not MD5 since it has collisions.
It is not D since AES is an encryption standard and not a hashing algorithm.
That leave both B, SHA and C RipMD. Both of which satisfy the requirement.
I believe the answer is SHA since it is more widely used than RipeMD.
