A security administrator is creating a subnet on one of the corporate firewall interfaces to use as a DMZ which is expected to accommodate at most 14 physical hosts. Which of the following subnets would BEST meet the requirements?
A. 192.168.0.16 255.25.255.248
B. 192.168.0.16/28
C. 192.168.1.50 255.255.25.240
D. 192.168.2.32/27
It can not be A, since A subnet mask is 248 => it can only allow for 7 hosts, but we need 14.
B is a possibility since the mask for B is 255.255.255.240 (255-15) => 16 hosts. Sounds like that is a possibility.
C is the same as B but in different notation.
D allows for 32 hosts.
Hmm.. I guess it is B and C :-).
Too bad that the writer of these question is not writing the CompTIA security+ exam.
Have you taken the exam?
Mask /28 or 255.255.255.240 provides subnet for 14 hosts. Answer C is incorrect because network ID 192.168.1.50 is unacceptable with such mask, also there is an error in the 3rd octet of the mask.
So the answer is B only.
