Which of the following would be the MOST cost effective for the administrator to recommend?

A small business developed an in-house application that is very sensitive to network latency when a communicating between servers. Due to a lack of funds, the business had to build its own network for workstations and servers. Now a network administrator must redesign the network due to performance issues with the application. Which of the following would be the MOST cost effective for the administrator to recommend?
A. Create Ethernet VLANs
B. Disable autonegotiation on the servers
C. Install 10Gb Ethernet NICs in the servers
D. Install Fibre Channel for the server network

  1. When they are saying ” Due to a lack of funds, the business had to build its own network for workstations and servers.” this tells me that they probably are not even using Cat 6 or 6a. They most likely are using Cat 5, so changing the NIC to 10G still not going to help them, not unless to change all the cables too.

  2. I believe the answer is A. The question stressed sensitivity to latency when communicating between SERVERS. It also emphasized implementing the MOST cost-effective solution. With VLANs, the administrator can define a network segment solely for the servers that the application uses for communication, thus eliminating interference from other servers and the workstations on the network.

  3. After a bit of debate we went with C
because the question is looking for increased performance for an application and communication between servers, vlans would have very little impact on performance if its the same amount of users on the application.

  4. The answer is A – the cost is time spent. 10 GB NICs is just the start of the cost for the other option.
