  1. The client 802.1X supplicant is a critical part of any Identity Services deployment. What is a supplicant? A client supplicant is simply the piece of software that the operating system (OS) uses to connect to networks, both wired and wireless. All the major OSs, like Windows, Mac OS X, Android, iOS, Linux, and many network devices, like Cisco IP-Phones, IP cameras, and so on, include a built-in supplicant. The network access devices (NAD) interact with the client’s supplicant upon connection to the wired or wireless network. The 802.1X transactions are performed between supplicant and the NAD. The NAD then talks RADIUS to the Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE).
