  1. The answer is NinjaStars. From HPE ASE – Storage solutions page 296/391

Use the presales processes, tools, and other information documented in this book to determine the proper solution, based on the customer requirements. As indicated in Figure 11-1, configuring the most resilient 3PAR/Primera solution requires following these steps:

    • Determining the proper array model
    • Adding resiliency features
    • Adding data protection features

    Determining the Proper Array Model
You need to understand the customer’s workload, and to achieve that, you need to be able to answer the following questions and be aware of some of the facts:

    • What type of provisioning are they using—Fully Provisioned Virtual Volume (FPVV), Thin Deduplicated Virtual Volume (TPVV), TPVV deduped, TPVV compressed, or TPVV Dedup+Compression (DECO)?
    • What are the expected data reduction ratios, based on proper analysis, including data types?
    • What are the random or sequential/block sizes, read/write ratio, and response time expectations?
    • What is the initial capacity requirement and the yearly growth?
    • What are the initial performance requirements in input/output operations per second (IOPS), MB/s, and response times in addition to the yearly growth?
    • Set the compaction ratio expectation using NinjaSTARS, NinjaCrawler, or other methods.
    • Choose a 3PAR system ending in a 40 or 50 model number for the extra CPU/cache.
    • Remember that Primera has some of the above options fixed; for example, Primera has only two types of virtual volume (VV) choices or fixed RAID 6 level.
