  1. I’m not sure why you would use DSC for doing anything ad hoc. To me, ad hoc means you are making the VM straight from Azure Powershell and you don’t care about the desired state. If you cared about the desired state then you wouldn’t write an ad hoc script and instead you’d create/use a DSC resource to create your VM and then maintain its state.

    As for the first one Azure Automation has runbooks which is a portfolio of scripts (e.g. powershell, python, etc.) – so I agree with that answer.
