  1. These are patch panel modules (as opposed to NCS chassis cards/modules). They have a TX and RX port that are used to mux/demux up to 48 channels (either even or odd… need one each of the 15216-MD-48-ODD and 15216-MD-48-EVEN panels to do all 96 channels that modern ROADMs can support). A DWDM signal coming in on the COM/RX port is demuxed out to 48 ports, each using a specific wavelength “channel” of the spectrum. Each output port will be transmitting on a specific wavelength. Similarly, each of the 48 input ports is expecting to receive an incoming signal on a specific wavelength, and they are all muxed together to transmit out on the COM/TX port as DWDM. So it’s not colorless, the 48 ports are each communicating on a specific, fixed wavelength.
