I actually think the answer here is A…why
From the training manual:
The resolve a process freeze with the least amount of impact, perform a reboot to restart the entire system. In situations where performing a reboot is not an immediate option, restart the User mode process as a workaround and then reschedule a a reboot of the server at the earliest possible opportunity.
As you can see above, this implies that the best way to resolve a frozen process is actually to reboot, and if this is not possible restart the service and then reboot in a maintenance window.
