In this case, assuming the questions is correct I would say 1 link is required for 1xspine and 1xleaf. If we add another spine and keep the one leaf switch we have two links and so on.
I remember a question from another dump, asking how many links exist between Spines. In this case the answer is 0, but Leafs and Spines are full meshed in terms of all leaf switches are cabled to each spine but there are no direct links among the spines.
