Which type of storage configuration should be used?

A customer wants to make its data available with a RPO of 10 minutes. Replication to the second data center will be done using the network. Which type of storage configuration should be used?
A. NFS datastore on ESXi 6.0 with vSphere replication appliance 6.0
B. VMFS datastore on ESXi 6.0 with vSphere replication appliance 6.5
C. vSAN datastore on ESXi 6.0 with vSphere replication appliance 6.5
D. VMFS datastore on ESXi 6.0 with vSphere replication appliance 6.0

  1. “A customer wants to make its data available with a RPO of 10 minutes.” Where from all of you got that 5 min RPO? The correct answer is D.

  2. a and d are incorrect as they are on VR 6.0 that not support “The 5 minute RPO”
b is not correct — ESXi 6.0 or later for VSAN
ESXi 6.5 for other supported datastores (VMFS)

    C is correct

  3. https://docs.vmware.com/en/vSphere-Replication/6.5/rn/vsphere-replication-65-release-notes.html

**5-minute Recovery Point Objective (RPO) support for additional data store types – This version of vSphere Replication extends support for the 5 minute RPO setting to the following new data stores: VMFS 5, VMFS 6, NFS 4.1, NFS 3, VVOL and VSAN 6.5. This allows customers to replicate virtual machine workloads with an RPO setting as low as 5-minutes between these various datastore options.

**The 5 minute RPO requires the source host to be ESXi 6.0 or later for VSAN, and ESXi 6.5 for other supported datastores
ESXi 6.0 or later for VSAN
ESXi 6.5 for other supported datastores

** The 5 minute RPO only available on VR 6.1 or later

  4. Tricky one, but I agree with C, as per previous comments/links.
Exam is about 6.5, so A and B can be discarded.
There is no hints about vCenter or VSAN versions, therefore we must assume those info so according this “The 5 minute RPO requires the source host to be ESXi 6.0 or later for VSAN, and ESXi 6.5 for other supported datastores” only C is valid.

    1. What you have mentioned is applied to VR 8.1 not VR 6.5 : here is what VR 6.5 says about 5min RPO:

You can use the 5 minute Recovery Point Objective (RPO) if the target and the source sites use VMFS 6.0, VMFS 5.x, NFS 4.1, NFS 3, VVOL, or Virtual SAN 6.0 storage and later.

vSphere Replication 6.5 displays the 5 minute RPO setting when the target and the source site use VMFS 6.0, VMFS 5.x, NFS 4.1, NFS 3, VVOL, or Virtual SAN 6.0 storage and later.

You can use the 5 minute RPO setting if you are using different datastore types between the source and the target site.

  5. C.

vSphere Replication 6.5 is supported on previous ESXi versions (such as 6.0). Only constraint is vCenter is running 6.5 as well (which can be assumed as it is not mentioned). vSphere Replication 6.5 release notes announce the 5 minute RPO (improved from 15 minutes previously) and specifically calls out the limitation of ESXi 6.0 only being supported for vSAN.

  6. d00ds … all good stuff here! Based on the URLs provided, at a quick glance both B and C look to be correct. vSAN v6.5 will be successful with an RPO of up to 5 minutes. However using the URL for compatibility matrix, vSAN v6.5 is not compatible with ESXi v6.0. Therefore answer C is incorrect and B is correct.

Also, A and D are not correct because vSphere Replication Appliance needs to be a min version of 6.1 to be successful with an RPO of up to 5 minutes.

  7. There is nothing in the question about vCenter version. vSphere replication 6.5 is compatible with ESXi 6.0.

    also in this article :
The 5 minute RPO requires the source host to be ESXi 6.0 or later for VSAN, and ESXi 6.5 for other supported datastores.
    check also: https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/2102453

So the correct answer must be C

    1. From the same link you provided:
“vSphere Replication 6.5 requires and fully supports vCenter Server 6.5”

      B can’t be correct.

      1. Question is not mentioning Vcenter version. Yes VR 6.6 only support VC 6.5 but VC 6.5 support esxi 6.0.
And if we agree with you even C is not correct as esxi 6.0 comes with vsan 6.0
