NFC has a range of inches, not metres so IR is correct as it mentioned line of sight and u would be hard-pressed to be a couple of inches away from the back of the phone and be out of the line of sight TBF!
NFC doesn’t require line of sight for sharing data.
Line of sight could be few metres without obstructions should be IR.
NFC uses haptic as well.
