  1. PIM assert message is used to choose the router for forwarding multicasts onto the LAN if more than one router is connected to the same LAN. So it’s definitely not used for electing PIM Designated Router. Therefore C and D still remain only valid options.

    It’s determined based on : 1. lowest AD of the routing protocol to learn the route of the source, 2. lowest advertised routing protocol metric, 3. highest IP address on that LAN
