    The IntServ approach involves the reservation of bandwidth on the network from end to end between two communicating devices, before communication begins. This is achieved using the RSVP. When a device such as an IP phone initiates communication, it requests the reservation of network resources, namely bandwidth, from the routers along the path to the intended destination. Once the reservation is acquired, the communication takes place.
